WWE has reportedly finally signed Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, best known as the Motor City Machine Guns, and fans are stunned.

The sports entertainment juggernaut is said to have landed the two former world champions, who are hailed as one of the greatest tag teams of all time after first forming in 2006 and taking TNA Wrestling by storm.

The duo left TNA earlier this year and have spent some time on the independent scene with their wrestling future being the source of much speculation, with fans wondering if they’d end up on WWE’s Raw, SmackDown or NXT, or even rival AEW.

However, it’s now reported by various outlets that the deal is done and bosses Triple H and Nick Khan have landed one of the most influential acts of the last two decades.

According to PWInsider, sources have confirmed MCMG have signed on the dotted line, with the latter reporting that they will be debuting on NXT and at least having an initial run on the brand.

Meanwhile, Fightful also revealed the news, adding that despite ‘some creative pitches’ from Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling, nothing materialised.

‘Never thought I would see them in WWE. Hell has froze over,’ said @treybo12, while @CoolitSilky added: ‘Bang!! Never thought I’d see the day. This Triple H era is god-tier.’

‘MCMG rule harder than most. One of the greatest tag teams ever and every single show they’re on is better for it,’ wrote X user @thebenjosays as fans reacted to the report.

‘I think MCMG lowkey is the greatest tag team of all time, everyone owes both of them at least something,’ tweeted @CCRazer, as @WrestlingFan_75 added: ‘MCMG are one of the greatest tag teams to never wrestle in WWE I’m glad they get the chance to prove how good they are.’

WWE has been bringing in some top superstars lately, including Giulia (Picture: WWE/Michael Owens)

The news comes after WWE already managed to sign Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer and Ethan Page for NXT and The Bloodline’s Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Jacob Fatu for SmackDown.

There is also a lot of speculation that AEW tag team Lucha Bros are on their way to WWE, while the likes of Bobby Lashley and Ricochet have left in recent weeks and months respectively.

Sabin and Shelley first started teaming together in 2006, with appearances in Ring of Honor and PWG, before officially forming as a duo in TNA the following year, where they became three-time world tag team champions, while they have each held the world and X-Division titles.

Shelley wrestled for WWE before after having a very brief stint with the company in 2020 as part of that year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

Sabin, a 10-time X-Division Champion, was brought in as a guest coach at the Performance Center in 2019, but he was never signed and ended up focusing on his TNA career at the time.

‘I was there for a week, got to go down and see the facility, see how everything works. It was an amazing, super cool experience,’ he told Metro.co.uk.
