WWE superstar Jey Uso suffered a gory injury on Monday Night Raw which left some fans feeling sick.
The decorated tag team champion turned main event fan favourite scored a surprising win over Ilja Dragunov in the quarter finals of the ongoing King of the Ring tournament, but it came at a cost.
During last night’s bout, the camera zoomed in at one point to show Jey’s ear bloodied up, with a wound seemingly caused by his piercing being torn out.
Given the high pain threshold the larger than life WWE superstars have, he was able to finish – and win – the clash, but viewers were disgusted by the brutal injury.
‘Did Jey’s earring rip out? I’m gonna throw up,’ wrote X user @kananakin, while another fan @meggshines replied: ‘Jey’s ear really bleeding 😳’
‘Ew why they did have to show a close up of Jey’s ear bleeding #WWERaw,’ complained a third viewer, while @liareigns cried: ‘I told them to put jey in bubble wrap for this match he already bleeding 😭’
A different fan, @maineventish, added: ‘One time, my partner’s dog bit and tore his earring almost through his lobe which almost caused him to pass out. I can only imagine how jey felt.’
And @The_RoyalJoshua argued: ‘I never understood why wrestlers or any athlete do their thing with jewerly on.
‘Nose piercings, bellybutton piercings, lip piercing, earrings, all that could easily be yanked out. Jey Uso’s ear will definitely have a scar from that earring tear.’
Jey beat Ilja in a typically hard hitting match, and the 30-year-old wrestler previously admitted his bouts are so violent that even his own family don’t tune in to watch.
‘You’ve gotta play it down a lot. So, I know my family doesn’t watch my stuff – which I fully understand, and totally support that,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk.
‘You take different performers – their stuff might be more watchable than mine, because my stuff is very, very extreme, very close to the possible limit.’
Elsewhere on the show, GUNTHER defeated Kofi Kingston to set up a semi-final match against Jey Uso, while Shayna Baszler beat Iyo Sky and Lyra Valkyeria overcame Zoey Stark to set up Raw’s Queen of the Ring semi-final.
The winners of those bouts will take on the respective winners on the SmackDown side of things, with Randy Orton, Camelo Hayes, LA Knight and Tama Tonga still in contention for the men’s crown.
When it comes to the women’s bracket, SmackDown stars Nia Jax, Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair and Tiffany Stratton are all still battling it out.
WWE King and Queen of the Ring airs live from Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 25 at 6pm. Tune in via the WWE Network.
