You season 4 ended with Joe having the most power he’s ever held in the series, now in relationship with Kate and having access to her company’s billion-dollar resources. He’s also come to terms with the darker side of himself, represented throughout the season by an imaginary version of Rhys Montrose goading him into accepting his criminal tendencies. Season 5 will likely continue to explore this dynamic of his character, while also delivering a fitting endgame after everything he’s gotten away with.

While Joe’s vast new resources make him more untouchable than ever before, he’ll still have to maintain his power within the Lockwood family around the new characters that will be featured. At the same time, it seems like his past could catch up to him in the form of the law, with Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer) guest starring as Detective Marquez during the final episodes. Given the number of enemies he’s made since the start of the show, it wouldn’t be surprising if one of them ends up being the enemy he’ll have to face in the last episodes.

Since this will be the end of the show, it seems guaranteed that You season 5 will feature returning characters in some capacity. With the box also making its return, perhaps Badgley’s video is foreshadowing the main character’s final fate, should law enforcement be unable to stop him. However, with filming just wrapping up, it will be some time before the story of the final season, and potential consequences for Joe, are truly confirmed.
